Background story
Her kindness was easily contagious as was her smile. There wasn’t a thing that walked on this green earth that she held malice towards.
When she was only five years old, self conscious of her growing ears which were far larger than her cohorts at her age, she had been given a small succulent. Planted in a simple white ceramic pot was growing a small green bud. Small leaves carefully and tightly packed together not yet ready to bloom, the tips of the leaves were tinted a maroonish color.
The little nub of a tail shimmied back and forth as she gingerly held her palms open to receive the gift. Looking down at it with eyes filled with admiration and excitement. There was a hint of uncertainty as the initial excitement began to wear off. Looking up with wide eyes seeking some kind of explanation for this gift.
“Just like that little succulent you will grow into something beautiful and unique. Don’t get too caught up in silly words, just stop and smell the roses and you’ll find yourself feeling all better.”

Many years later a love for flowers had been deeply planted in her heard. Her collection had grown larger than her most precious succulent that had been the dawn of her new found obsession.
The window seals were graced with the presence of flowers in various containers. Three succulents planted in three tea cups with roses painted on the side decorating her kitchen table. Every surface and table top had a plant of some sort on it. Even the smell of lavender filled the house, the floral scented tea brewing in the kitchen.
The garden had at least one kind of each species that she could get her hands onto. Succulents, cactus, roses, the list went on and on. The space was small but she fitted as much into it as possible. A wooden bench had been hollowed out on the bottom and succulents growing out of the hollowed out area. The surface of the bench was scattered with pots each of them graced with a beautiful unique cactus.
The rose bushes were like a rainbow, different colors mixing scents as they sat so close together. There was a small white metal table with matching chairs in the middle of the garden. A place she went for peace and quiet to enjoy her hard word.
But she had a soft spot for succulents, the first still being her favorite and placed solitarily on the table in the middle of her garden.
She had finally grown into her ears but even if she hadn’t it wouldn’t have bothered her one bit. Her once tiny little bud had now bloomed out into a flower like shape. It’s leaves had grown in size just as she had and the maroon color had become more vibrant. She re-planted it in a larger container now smaller buds growing out of the dirt around it’s base. It could always bring a smile to her face.
