Species Info:
Durikans are a semi-endangered species that live in various parts of the world. Anywhere from the Congo to the desert you might stumble across these territorial little fighters. They are about 7-10 inches call depending on the gender and branch of the species. Their small size makes them light and agile when escaping from predators. The species has anywhere from two to four eyes, Durikan's without more than two eyes cannot see access into the spirit world. Many old human tribes had used the species to appease gods and ward away evil spirits. They use the balls on their tails to generate the power they use to see into the spirit world. But if the ball is damaged and cracked, despite if they have more than two eyes, they can no longer see the spirits. This species are Dulcivores, which mainly survive off of eating sweet things high in sugar.
All Durikans have six legs, four front legs, and two back legs. Their back legs are much like rabbits hind legs and help them make large jumps. They have extremely large ears that are very bat like. They can catch loud and high pitched sounds and listen for predators. They also help dissipate heat from their usually hot bodies. They do not have a pronounced snout instead their nose is flat on their face much like that of a rabbits. Because of this they have a weak sense of smell and rely on their sight and hearing for finding food and predators. Their tongues are various colors and are very sensitive to flavors. Their cheeks have the ability to expand to shove food into and they also puff out their cheeks and make shrill noises to scare away enemies. As far as teeth go they have flat grinding molars in the back of their mouth and the rest of the teeth are slightly pointed with the exception of the canines which are extremely pointed.
They can have anywhere from one to five horns in various sizes and colors. The gender of the Durikan doesn't matter when it comes to horn size or color. And though the size does not carry much importance it does work as more of asthetics value when choosing a partner. The males are called a Tsar, females are a Dame, and their offspring are a kip. They live in groups of 10-13 adults called a flush. In the flush there are anywhere from 2-3 Tsars and 8-10 Dames, and any number of Kip. The leader of the flush can be either male or female, if the leader is a male he is referred to as a korol and a female would be a koroleva. The second in command is often called the Koyka and can also be of either gender. If the leader is male then he has first pick of his females choosing which he wants and the second or third male fight over the rest. If the leader is female she also may pick which of the males if not all of them will be hers until she conceives, there after the males are free to fight over the other females in the flush.
They live in trees, using their claws and teeth to hollow out sections in a trunk to sleep in at night and sometime store food. The females will go much of the gathering of food while the males watch the kip. They are most active in the day and stay within their trees at night. They mate in the spring like many animals and their pregnancy lasts about five months and they can carry only one to two kip per pregnancy. They live about ten years on average sometimes more sometimes less. Some that live in captivity alone tend to live shorter lives than those in the wild. In the wild they have been known to adorn their horns and body parts with jewelry or paint.
Often captured by poachers Durikans are sold on the black market as pets for children or good luck charms or gifts to business partners. They can come in many variations depending on the part of the world they are from and sometimes it is expressed in the natural adaptations and differences to their bodies. Like more or less fur, smaller or shorter ears, and so forth.
